Clinical Effect and Safety of Orally Administered Pefloxacin on Various Infections in Department of General Surgery

Abstract
30 cases, 11 with deep soft tissue infection, 12 with cutaneous or wound infection, 6 with intra-abdominal infection, were treated with oral Pefloxacin 400mg bid and were evaluated the clinical efficacy and safety. The results were as follows:
1. The overall efficacy rate was 96.6% in various infection.
2. The blood cell count and biochemical laboratory data did not show any adverse effect after the administration of pefloxacin.
3. Nausea, indigestion and epigastric discomfort were observed in 2 patients during administration of pefloxacin. Headache, insomnia and vertigo were noted in 1 patient but symptoms were mild (10%).
